Do you know what you should expect from your health and care professional?
There are standards of conduct, performance and ethics set out by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and all professionals on the HCPC Register must meet them.
This includes treating people as an individual, being honest, and putting safety first. These are standards that all service users should expect from their health and care professional.
Shaping our Lives (part of the Win-Win Alliance, our partners in the VCSE Health and Wellbeing Alliance) played an important part in the review of these standards by consulting with service users and carers about their experiences.
The key recommendation of Shaping Our Lives’ work was to create a simple checklist that service users could use to see what should and should not happen when using services.
HCPC have now produced a range of resources and these are available on the HCPC website:
- ‘Be Sure’ – a video which explains how to check the HCPC Register;
- A information leaflet on the HCPC standards and what to do if you are unhappy with the care that you receive;
- A video accompanying the above leaflet.
