Updated Guidance: Burial Grounds and Cemeteries
In a letter to faith leaders, Lord Greenhalgh, Minister of State for Building Safety and Communities confirmed that the guidance around the closures of burial grounds and cemeteries has now been updated.
Burial grounds and cemeteries can now stay open, including gardens of remembrance. Government guidance on closures in general can be found here. There had previously been confusion surrounding the visitation of these areas, but the government has now highlighted the importance of them staying open where possible and with compliance to social distancing, so that families have an opportunity to say a respectful goodbye to those that they love.
The amendments to the regulations can be found here, and the original regulations here. To read the full letter, please click here.
