NHS Blood and Transplant: Community Investment Scheme
Today marks the launch of 35 new projects as part of NHS Blood and Transplant’s Community Investment Scheme, which funds trusted community organisations to promote blood and organ donation in ethnic minority communities.
Launching today on World Kidney Day (11/03/2021), the projects will focus on addressing the shortage of organ donors from all ethnic minority communities, and in a new addition for this year’s scheme, the shortage of blood donors from the Black community. Projects with a blood donation focus will engage donors from Black communities, who are more likely to have rare blood subtypes like Ro, which are used to treat patients with conditions like sickle cell.
