NHS National Overprescribing Review Report
The NHS National Overprescribing Review Report was published this week by the Department of Health and Social Care. The review looked at ways of reducing levels of inappropriate prescribing of medication among various different groups of people.
The report makes clear that there is a link between overprescribing and inequalities in society and recommends:
- Systemic changes to improve patient records, transfers of care and clinical guidance to support more patient-centred care
- Culture change to reduce the reliance on medicines and support shared decision-making
- A new National Clinical Director for Prescribing to lead a cross-system implementation programme including research and training
