NHS Organ Donation Week 2022
NHS Blood and Transplant is urging families to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register this September. Adding your name and decision to the NHS Organ Donor Register is the best way to record your decision. Your family will be expected to support what you have decided, so you should also tell them what you want. Adults and children can each save up to nine lives by being an organ donor and improve many more lives by donating tissue too.
In 2021/22, more than 4000 people had their lives transformed by an organ transplant. People could go on holiday, play with their children, and come off dialysis, all thanks to organ donors and their families giving the gift of life. Today, there are around 7000 people waiting for a life changing transplant. This includes more than 200 children. Only a very small number of people are able to become organ donors, which is why every potential donor is so precious.
Organ Donation Week runs from 26th September to 2nd October, and NHS Blood and Transplant would like as many people as possible by pledging to record your decision, and post or share messaging on social media, tagging @NHSOrganDonor and using the hashtags #OrganDonation #OrganDonationWeek #GiftOfLife
