Race Equality Foundation: Stronger Relationships Programme
Race Equality Foundation (REF), part of the VCSE Health & Wellbeing Alliance have been funded by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to launch the nationwide SFSC: Stronger Relationships programme, aimed at supporting Black, Asian, and minority ethnic parents to reduce parental conflict.
Whilst it is perfectly normal to have different opinions and to disagree, some arguments never seem to be resolved, leading to a cycle of repeated unhappy and distressing conversations or the avoidance of any communication at all. The aim of the project is to break this cycle and improve the health and wellbeing of these parents and their families.
Developed from REFs inclusive, evidence based Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities parenting programme, co-parents and other adult carers living together (including extended families) or apart (including step-families) will be able to access:
- A 6 week online programme offering facilitated group support and techniques to cope better with stress, have clearer, more constructive communication and raise happy and healthy children. The online course offers flexibility and accessibility for parents seeking valuable parenting support.
- A 13 week in-person programme offering parenting and communication support techniques delivered to a group of parents in person. This is a more in depth and comprehensive course.
Parents can enrol on the free programme here. Shareable resources can be found here.
